Teams translated ITIL terms alongside the phrases their night shift actually speaks. Pairing each term with a worked example from a past incident made the glossary navigable during heat, not just during onboarding.
We also learned to version glossaries with the same cadence as playbook updates. Drift appeared fastest when glossary owners sat outside the incident review loop. Pulling them into monthly reviews kept verbs aligned with tooling field labels.
Finally, acknowledge the ceiling: glossaries cannot replace fluent facilitation for nuanced negotiations. They reduce friction for newer members and give multilingual crews a shared anchor when adrenaline runs high.
